Obituary for Scott Russell Gamblin

SCOTT RUSSELL GAMBLIN
Scott Russell Gamblin passed away suddenly, the victim of an automobile accident
in Memphis on July 29, 2021. Scott was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 17, 1963, the
son of Donald and Shirley Gamblin. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des
Moines. After living in Des Moines, Nashville and Indianapolis, Scott and his family
moved to Memphis in 1974. Scott was confirmed at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Scott graduated from Memphis University School in 1981, and went on to attend
both Southern Methodist University and the University of Memphis, where he received his
Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Finance. Scott worked with Financial
Federal Bank in Memphis, and then went on to work in the financial services industry in
North Carolina for several years prior to returning home to Memphis.
As a boy, Scott had a love of all sports, especially baseball and basketball. This love
of sports continued through Scott’s life. Scott steadfastly followed the University of
Memphis football and basketball programs, and grew to follow the Carolina Panthers
while living in North Carolina. With his combined interest of numbers and statistics, Scott
relished the times and memories that he got to spend with life long friends while
participating in their rotisserie baseball league.
However, Scott’s love of sports paled in comparison to the great love and devotion
he had for his children, Whit and Alex. Although separated by geography the past few
years, there was nothing closer to his heart than his children and their well being. Scott
had no greater pride than the type of young adults his children had become.
Scott was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shirley. He is survived by his
wife Krissy, his son Whit, his daughter Alex, his father Donald, his sister Cynthia Burton
(Michael), and extended family in St. Charles, Missouri and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A
memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 7th
at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. A reception shall follow at 1648 Vinton
Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a memorial may be made in Scott’s
name to Christ the King Lutheran Church or a donation to Christ Community Health
Services, 2595 Central Ave., Memphis, TN 38104.
