Obituary for Emma Burnett

Emma Elizabeth Burnett
February 25, 1932 – July 29, 2022

Emma Elizabeth Burnett, age 90, of Oxford, MS, died peacefully at the Pinnacle of Oxford with family by her side, Friday, July 29, 2022.

Emma was born on February 25, 1932, in Nebo, Illinois, the only child of the late Presse and Katie (McClimen) Greger. She married Keith Burnett on November 25, 1950, in Pittsfield, IL. They were married for 69 years before Keith’s death in March, 2020.

Emma worked for 20 years in the Creve Coeur Public Schools, Creve Coeur, IL. She was a playground supervisor and school secretary at Gerber and LaSalle Schools before retiring in 1990. After their retirement, Keith and Emma traveled across North America in their BlueBird Wander Lodge motorhome, visiting family and making new friends.

Emma loved her family and was a devoted wife and mother.
She was affectionately known as “Maw” by her 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great- granddaughter. Emma was pleased to be able to celebrate her 90th birthday in February 2022, and to be able to have a 5 generations picture taken with her daughter, Rhonda, granddaughter, Jodi, great granddaughter Olivia, and great-great granddaughter, Montana.

Emma had put her faith and trust in Jesus Christ and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Batesville, MS where her son, Brad, is the pastor. Although sad, her family is celebrating that she is reunited with her husband and because they know they will see both of them again one day.

Emma is survived by 2 daughters, Janie Calhoun (Steve) of Greenbrier, TN, Rhonda Edwards (Jim) of Jackson, TN, a son, Brad Burnett (Amy Sue) of Batesville, MS; 7 grandchildren, Jodi Brown, Mandi Prado (Alex), Chad Edwards (Heidi), Laura Kidd (Jason), Andrea Burnett, Kari Bahorik (Justin), and Adam Burnett (Amy); 13 great grandchildren, Olivia Rose (Johnny), Sophia and Emma Brown, Penelope and Arabella Prado, Ashley and Austin Edwards, Jack and Carter Bahorik, Story, Meila, Oakley and Herschel Burnett; 1 great-great granddaughter, Montana Rose.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Presse and Katie Greger, and her husband, Keith Burnett.

There will be a memorial service at Good Hope Baptist Church, 1516 Good Hope Road, Batesville, MS on September 3, 2022 at 1:00pm.

The family would like to express their appreciation to all the staff of The Pinnacle Assisted Living Facility for the wonderful care they provided Miss Emma while she was a resident there, but especially to Wendy, Susan, Pam, Maddie, Lonnie, Ryan and Tammy for their love and compassion.

The family would also like to thank Dr.’s Hall, Helmhout, Glasgow and King, along with the Gentiva Hospice nurses, Haley, Jackie and Harriet, for the excellent medical care they provided.
